Baking Bread

Why bake bread in an age when it’s so easy to buy a loaf from the supermarket? For many reasons. As I write, the smell of fresh bread drifts through the house, turning it into a home. Since choosing to simplify my life and live with more intention, I now have the time to return to breadmaking. To knead the dough, watch it rise, press it down and knead again, shape it, let it rise once more, and finally place it in the oven. To tip it from its tin, steaming, and leave it to cool.

Baking bread is my way of living by my values of nurturing health, expressing creativity, and caring for my family.

It satisfies me because it slows me down and anchors me in the moment. Each stage—kneading, rising, shaping, baking—demands patience and care. This simple rhythm mirrors my choice to live a slower, intentional, purpose-driven life, where nourishing my family and creating with my hands bring meaning and joy.
