English paper pieces 1.5 inch squares. The stitching was fun to do. I eyeballed it, lots of wobble. The stitch pattern was surprisingly simple to create. I was inspired by the many Shashiko patterns I found in a google image search. I did purchase a book at the local newsagents Sashiko 365: Stitch a New Sashiko Pattern Every Day of the Year by Susan Briscoe. So much for reducing the clutter.
The fabrics are calico. Indigo and eucalyptus dyed. Both having been hanging around for a few years.

Playing around with the placement of the English paper pieced squares was fun. It took me some time to figure out how to best use what I had. I started the process with no end project in mind. I had picked up the square templates from a quilt shop. They were marked down and I was tempted. I did need to make additional paper squares to have enough for the cushion as I needed 81 and there was 50 in the pack I purchased.
The cushion has found a new home with one of my daughters. It goes well with her new sofa.
I’m rather pleased with the result, I used fabrics I already had, enjoyed the process of creating, supported a local business with a small purchase, learned a new skill, Shashiko and gave something to my daughter.
